Password Requirements

The password requirements for the Matter platform are designed to ensure the highest level of security for its users. To meet these requirements, passwords must meet the following criteria:

  • Length: A minimum of 8 characters is required.
  • Complexity: Passwords must contain a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Uniqueness: Passwords must not be reused and must be unique to the Matter platform.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure the protection of your account and the sensitive information stored within it.

It is also recommended to regularly update your password to maintain the highest level of security.

Choosing a good password

The Matter team highly recommends utilising a password manager software such as 1Password or LastPass. These tools can not only generate strong, unique passwords for each website you visit, but they can also automatically fill in your passwords and protect you against phishing attacks.

If you prefer not to use a password manager, it is crucial to follow these best practices:

  • Use a long, complex, and unique password specifically for your Matter account.
  • Avoid reusing passwords from other websites, especially your email account.
  • Consider using a passphrase, such as a sentence or group of words, but ensure it's not a well-known quote from a book or movie. Keep in mind that hackers have access to large databases of commonly used phrases.
