Creation of Drafts directly from the platform

In Matter's analytics platform, we've rolled out a new feature that empowers you to create a Draft – a custom list of issuers – right from the ground up. No more hassles of uploading or re-uploading the exact list of items you want to analyse on the platform.

This feature unlocks boundless potential. You can meticulously build your desired list of issuers, fine-tune their weights directly within the platform, and seamlessly analyze and compare your created Drafts against any other items available on the platform. It's all about putting you in control and enhancing your analytical and data management capabilities.

The term "Draft", explained

A draft is a concept that bridges the gap between universe creation and portfolio construction. It's been meticulously crafted to offer greater potency than a mere complex issuer list while retaining a higher level of flexibility and intuitiveness compared to portfolio creation.

Throughout this guide and your platform experience, you'll encounter the terms "Draft" or "Portfolio Draft." These terms are consistently used to clearly distinguish them from other items like "Portfolios."

Here's an overview of the broad spectrum of potential use cases we envision for this feature by adding issuers to a draft:

  1. Universe creation: Generate comprehensive investment universes tailored to specific criteria and objectives.
  2. Portfolio strategies validation: Validate and refine portfolio strategies by utilising drafts to simulate and evaluate potential outcomes.
  3. Thematic group creation: Effortlessly form thematic groups by seamlessly amalgamating various issuers into a cohesive draft.
  4. Scenario testing: Conduct thorough scenario testing by creating and adjusting drafts to explore different market situations and strategies.
  5. Investment research: Utilise drafts as a dynamic tool for in-depth investment research, enabling you to analyse and fine-tune potential investment opportunities or risks.
  6. Risk management: Employ drafts to assess and manage potential risks associated with various investment compositions.

The feature has been thoughtfully designed to cater to these diverse applications, providing you with an adaptable and potent asset for your analytical toolkit.

Access your drafts

From the Portfolio hub, with the Drafts tab

You can locate this feature within the Portfolio Hub by simply clicking on the "Drafts" tab. Once there, you'll have complete access to your entire list of Drafts. This is your hub for crafting, organizing, and editing your Drafts to your heart's content.

We've designed this feature to seamlessly integrate throughout the platform in connection with any issuers. This ensures that you can effortlessly tap into and engage with the feature whenever and wherever you require its functionality.

From the Selection panel, with the Drafts tab

We've also factored in the simulation capability. That's why accessing all your saved Drafts is a breeze – you can do it directly from the selection panel. It works just like selecting a Portfolio or any Nasdaq Indices.

Create your first draft

To create a draft, you have a simple straightforward option. Accessing the Draft list and simply clicking the "Create a Draft" button. This action prompts a window to appear, prompting you to enter a name for your new Draft. Upon completing this step, an empty Draft will be generated and ready for your input.

Add an issuer

There are multiple methods available to add an issuer to one or multiple drafts, all following a consistent approach. You can perform this action whenever an issuer is visible on the platform. The process is simple: just click on the "Options" button and select the "Add to drafts" option.

Here's a breakdown of various scenarios where you can add issuers to drafts:

  1. Portfolio Holdings: Right from the holdings list of any of your portfolios.
  2. Draft Holdings: Directly from the holdings list of any of your drafts.
  3. List of Contributors: While engaged in analysis, you can do this from the comprehensive list of contributors for a specific metric.
  4. Search Issuers Panel: By activating the search issuer function.
  5. Top 5 Contributors List: When exploring a metric's analysis, you can instantly add issuers from the list of top 5 contributors.
  6. Issuer Report: You can directly add issuers from an individual issuer report.

Feel free to take advantage of any of these use cases to streamline your issuer management within drafts.

Add a Portfolio's holdings

Not only can you add an issuer from the platform, but you also have the option to transfer holdings from one or multiple portfolios into one or multiple drafts simultaneously. This feature provides you with the flexibility to maintain the predefined weights of your portfolio(s) and even transfer just the holdings list into the designated draft(s).

This function is designed to save you a significant amount of time when you're focused on enhancing a portfolio. It eliminates the need to re-upload the portfolio for analysis purposes, streamlining your workflow efficiently.

Here's a breakdown of different scenarios and their impact on the outcome:

  1. Keep portfolio weight: This is when you want to maintain the weight of your portfolio and possibly clear the weight already in the draft.
  2. Drop portfolio weight: If you want to retain the existing weight in the draft but transfer only the holdings' list without their weights to the draft(s).
  3. Combine all the weights: In this case, you aim to merge portfolio and draft weights. This aggregate values and rebalances according to new holdings and previous weight.
All actions taken during the transfer are permanent, yet we always prioritise safeguarding your portfolio data.

Rebalance your draft weight

Accessing this feature is straightforward. While in the draft composition itself, hover over the weight cell of any existing rows, and easily adjust the weight according to your preference. An automated normalisation process ensures that your analysis maintains accuracy and consistency throughout.

You now have the ability to manually rebalance or reset the weight of a draft, granting you exceptional precision when experimenting with various simulations and strategies. This empowering feature enables you to refine your approach and confidently explore different scenarios.

The feature provides three adaptable methods for weighting your draft on the platform:

  1. Input Percentage: Effortlessly allocate weights by inputting percentages. Assign proportional weights based on designated percentage values.
  2. Input Total Value: Weigh selections by inputting the total value of your portfolio. Assign weights based on the absolute value of each item, offering meticulous control over the overall distribution.
  3. Input Ratio: Utilise input ratios to weigh selections. Define relative proportions between items, creating a well-balanced and personalised weighting scheme.

With these options, you're equipped to craft the perfect draft that aligns with your goals. Experiment, adjust, and achieve your desired outcomes effortlessly.

Make a draft ready for analysis

Currently, a draft isn't ready for analysis – you can select it, but no data will be processed. The rationale is straightforward: the contributions you've made to the draft haven't yet been processed by our system. In simpler terms, you need to "Save" your changes before proceeding with any analysis.

To accomplish this, an action is necessary – just click on the "Save the draft" or later on "Save changes" button found in the top right corner within the draft summary. The process might take a few seconds or even minutes, and a notification will appear once the process is complete.

Analyse a draft

Once a draft has been saved at least once, you can dive into analysis and make comparisons with other items on the platform. Just like you select portfolios or indices today, you'll choose one or multiple drafts through the Portfolio Hub or the selection panel in the upper right corner.

Here are some last-minute tips and tricks before you venture forth:

  • Check for initial draft save: Always ensure a draft has been saved at least once. Once there's at least one issuer in the draft, you can save it in our system, making it ready for analysis. Otherwise, your analysis will display a value of 0.
  • Save changes in the draft: Remember to save changes made in a draft. Failing to do so means these changes won't be included in the analysis. We always save any alterations, but they won't impact the analysis until you press that button.

Navigate these pointers and make the most out of your journey.

That's all.

We encourage you to leverage the unlimited potential of creating drafts on our platform. You have the freedom to contribute to their composition or balance from diverse sources, whether it's individual issuers or entire portfolios with predefined weights. The draft feature is designed to empower your team with a direct influence on your analysis and provide a convenient avenue to craft potential investable universes.
